About Vickie Metzinger

Hi, my name is Vickie Metzinger,

I fell in love with horses and became fascinated by them when I touched that first muzzle. I started riding at age 10 with a wonderful trainer. She taught me everything from care to riding both Western and English. I remember hitting the trail behind the stables and flying bareback, in the trees jumping logs, crossing the creek, and learning skills in the arena. I continued riding. All I dreamed of was owning one of these magnificent creatures. We moved too much according to Dad. My husband bought me my first horse when my daughter developed the same passion at 9. He taught me a lot and I begin to learn how to train. A year later I bought a very green 3 year old. What a rewarding journey we have been on. She does the speed events, jumps, trail, and Playday type shows. We bought a 2 1/2 year old barrel prospect from my daughters trainer and I broke my first, got him patterned and let her take it from there with her trainer. Since then, I have worked with clients through training issues, started a colts and fillies, and taught many kids and adults how to ride. Through my journey, I have worked with many horse personalities. I try to find what makes each horse tick and work with them to get a willing, respectful partner. I expose the horse to as many things as I can think of so they are a safe, reliable partner both at the barn and on the trail. This includes cars, farm and lawn equipment, dogs, bikes, strollers, kids, trains, water, and wildlife. They are exposed to tarps, ground poles, logs, dragging logs, flags, and joggers. Also, I want them to stand still mounting from ground and block, travel through easy transitions through gates, move all their body parts, nice stops and backing, correct leads, and soft in the hand. I do alot of groundwork for respect and teaching ground manners. My horses have been worked extensively from the ground up so everyone from the vet to the farrier and whoever rides them finds them safe and fun to be around as well as a pleasure to ride. I aim for a polite and all around good citizen. I’m always happy to answer any questions! Thank you for your interest!
