I have no idea where my horse obsessive came from – I’m from a little village in the Adirondack Mountains in upstate NY – didn’t live in the country and I didn’t have a horse family. Nonetheless, my father bought me a horse 60 yrs ago (I think to stop my begging and crying) and I learned a bunch from many mistakes and fouls. Let me just say, the horse was gifted to me with just a halter and a lead rope. Needless to say, 2 yrs of bareback riding gave me some solid riding skills! Then I joined a 4H club and sprouted my wings! We performed a precision drill team at the local rodeo, where I also ran barrels. From that long ago time in the 60’s until now, I’ve had many horses and have done a lot of different activities, including showing, gymkhanas, field trials, driving, cow sorting, extreme cowboy events. What I enjoy the most is trail riding and camping with my horses. I am 71 years old and still can’t imagine life without horses. Unfortunately, I have to downsize because I have too many and 2 foals due any day now. My loss of Gustavo will definitely be someone’s gain!
