I have owned horses for 20 years. I have ridden english and done a bit of jumping and dressage, but mostly I ride western. My love is trail riding. I have three children, two of them have a passion for horses. My two youngest children started out with a 10-hand pony; my son was four, and my daughter was 18 months old. I knew from that time that my daughter had a special bond with horses. She could get that little pony to do anything she wanted without any help from me. My daughter, at age 2, decided she wanted to do barrel racing. I had never done much for showing and never had done any games before, but we loaded the two kids and the pony up, and we were off!!! People would always laugh when we showed up at a horse show with our four-horse trailer, and the only horse that jumped out was a little 10-hand tall pony with hair for days! Well, of course, it did not take very long, and we realized it didn’t work to have one pony with two kids, and the obsession with ponies began. My kids developed a love for all of the games, including a passion for jumping. They have each progressed as the years have gone by. They are now 12 and 14 and taller than Mom now, so both have moved up in size and ability of the horse, but both will never forget their first pony Brownie where it all began. They love to compete at the shows and bring home the ribbons and buckles when they can but they also love to go out for a nice relaxing trail ride with Mom.
