About Kari Kirby

Blissful Gaits Farm is located in NW Alabama at the foot of the beautiful Bankhead National Forest.  My husband, Howell Kirby, and I (Kari) got interested in gaited horses shortly after moving to our farm in 2006 and trail riding with friends.  When we went to the World Celebration at the Racking Horse Association in Decatur, Alabama shows he fell in love with the speed racking.  We would go back to the barns and talk to the riders and see the horses.  He especially liked to talk to Pete Slemp and pet the famous ‘Highway To Hell’, the 13 time World Grand Champion Speed Racker, Standardbred stallion. At 57 years old and after trail riding for a few years, he had to have a speed racker and found 2 1/2 year old Yankee Hustler, trotting bred Standardbred stallion in Kentucky.  We brought him home and that was the beginning of training, riding, racing, showing, competing, and raising Standardbreds and Standardbred crosses to go from Rail to Trail, and anything in between.  Hustler is most famous for winning the Big Guns Speed Racking Class and 3rd in Best Gaited in 2014.  I ended up buying a 4 year old mare who’s sire was an 18 time WGC Speed Racker named Stroker’s Powerhouse.  Stroker’s Scooten Bay B, (Scoot) has won many speed racking events and 3 World Championships.  In 2020 Scoot was the World Champion Maximum Speed Racking Champion at Decatur in the World Celebration and Hustler was the Reserve World Champion.  Their 1st offspring, Hustler’s Stroken Hemi, went on to win the World Grand Championship Speed Class in the 2022 World Celebration.
I have continued to trail ride and prefer to ride the Standardbred/Gaited crosses and finish their training after the professional trainer on our trails and camping trips. Our mares range from TWH, SSH, Rocky crosses, Singlefooters, Standardbred crosses and racking horses.  I usually pick out one I want to keep and end up selling them, as I  have younger ones coming on that need riding.  Sipsey is the latest one I have to regretfully give up and move on.  Some lucky person will end up with this wonderful filly that I have enjoyed for the last year.
Our website:  blissfulgaitsfarm.com   has pictures and more information about our farm. It is a little outdated right now due to my love of trail riding and I am also a nurse practitioner, recently gone part time to ride more.
