Description:
You Are My Sunshine is a 5-year-old palomino Azteca (Quarter Horse x Andalusian) mare who is truly a once-in-a-lifetime horse. She can do it all! She has a willing attitude and loves to learn. She has a brave, loving, friendly, puppy-dog-type personality and enjoys human companionship.
She has been my personal horse for 2 years and was raised and trained by our family. She is very special to us and will be missed. We only sell a few horses each year, and this is Sunshine’s year. We have exposed her to everything imaginable. Tractors, sirens, guns, children, and small dogs she has seen it all. She is always reliable and calm.
We have enjoyed riding her in Christmas parades. She doesn’t bat an eye at police cars, crowds, and excited horses. We have also taken her for night rides, galloping over the fields by moonlight.
My 10-year-old son has competed with her in several local shows and won ribbons.
Sunshine has trail ridden all over the Southeast. She will swim rivers, go through mud, climb mountains, and doesn’t mind dogs, deer, or turkeys jumping out of the brush. She is always calm and confident. She has excellent feet and has never needed shoes, even on rocky mountain trails. At 14.1 hands, she has a thick, sturdy build and plenty of stamina. She can easily carry my husband, and I often ride her double with one of my children.
She is one of those rare horses that can ride equally well with both gaited horses and quarter horses. She can walk slow or fast. I have also taught her to do a slow trot that is incredibly smooth and comfortable for the trails.
She will pony other horses and doesn’t mind ropes wrapped across her haunches. I have used her extensively to lead my 4-year-old daughter’s pony on trails and to help me break green colts.
Sunshine will stop on a dime; you can rope off her or herd a cow or horse off her. She has an excellent neck rein and responds to seat aids. You can ride her bareback and bridleless just as easily as you would with a bridle.
