Pleasure Trail, Competitive Trail, Schooling Level Shows, Versatility

Shamaan is a 15HH SE Arabian gelding. He was professionally handled and trained by his breeder who sold him to me as a 7-year old gelding, fully trained for an English balanced seat. His turnout with the breeder was right up against a state highway and as a result, Shamaan has been steady in traffic on our rides including 18-wheelers, pods of motorcyclists, and heavy equipment. He is accustomed to deer and turkeys in his field. He is familiar with cows, dogs, cats, and chickens. He has also never been abused, neglected, or traumatized. He has no idea people can be anything but fair and in-charge. He is polite, allows himself to be caught, is easy to handle, and looks forward to working. He has zero stable vices and understands giving to pressure when tied, touched, or standing on his own lead. He is easy to worm and give vaccines and keeps a tidy stall.
Shamaan, son of a blue-listed stud, is a show quality animal who is balanced in all of his gaits. He already possesses the schooling to succeed at low level English or Western dressage and schooling shows. And yet, with the exception of some dressage lessons and versatility clinics, I have enjoyed him almost exclusively for distance pleasure trail riding, for workdays of trail maintenance, and camping. Shamaan practices both leads and lateral aids on every trail ride so that he conditions his body evenly on both sides and keeps tuned-in to his knowledge-base and his rider. He rides out alone or in company. He is relaxed on the trailer and loafs, eats, and drinks as usual away from home. In fact, he loves traveling like a dog invited for a ride.
Shamaan’s conditioning for distance riding was taken on very gradually to allow his joints and tendons time to toughen-up for a lifetime of soundness and athleticism. He has been handled every day of his life and has been consistently ridden every Wednesday, Saturday, and Sunday for long 3-5 hour trail rides with extra days of riding in the pleasant months of the year.
