Trail riding , obstacles, companionship

6 yr old Palomino mare. NON-GAITED Kentucky Mountain Horse. Strongly built 14.-14.1 …. the perfect size for we short people to mount from the ground with ease… especially as we “mature” ????

I took her to Florida for the month of Feb. For riding in a more agreeable climate. GiGi is strong and steadfast. She can carry a variety of size riders, and she stands well for mounting. She is brave yet calm on the trail and does not get too worried about another horse moving ahead ( she is even patient for the trail “potty ” break !) She will ride anywhere in the group. She rides fine with mares or geldings. She is easy to catch in the field and knows about electric fencing. She loads and hauls well. And knows how to camp on a line. She doesn’t mind the work of hills, valleys, and various terrain. She has good feet and can ride shod or barefoot, depending on the terrain you ride.

I would say she is suitable for an advanced beginner and up. I train many very young ones, and I have found GiGi to be a delight on the trail because she doesn’t need any training. I can sit there and enjoy the ride ( and that is nice once in a while.)

Gigi has not necessarily been used as a kids babysitter horse, but she did perfectly with my four grandchildren amidst lots of noise and chaos around her. As you can see in the videos, I was delighted to see that she was cooperative and patient with all their moves. This would lead me to believe that she can probably be used for lessons or playtime in a supervised setting.

ENDURANCE trail may be a good event for this girl ….. she is calm and steady, will go anywhere, and has a heart for the sport. She is willing to move out with a nice extended trot and willing to return to a calm ground covering walk in an instant.  (a few of the pics of here are me moving out on her, two-pointing  her trot .)

She is very athletic and probably could meet the demands of multiple disciplines with the right partner.
