Trail, Cattle, Roping, Hunter Prospect, Grandparent Safe, Heel Horse, Ranch

15hh 2014 AQHA registered buckskin mare. Came off a working ranch in Texas as a 4-year-old to work in a feedlot and push cattle at the sale barn. She was bought in 2021 and shipped up to Iowa by an older couple. They enjoyed trail riding Sis but aren’t able to ride as much as they once did. Sis is no stranger to a day’s work, and it shows a using horse with a lot of try. Nice stop, soft in the side, she’ll swing or side pass into just about any spot. The babysitter type on the trail verified grandparent safe, but she does have a good handle, so would recommend at least a quiet rider if you’re throwing beginners on
Sis has been ranched on plenty, used to pasture roping, checking fences, and doctoring cattle. I wouldn’t call her finished for the show pen yet, but she has three good gaits and knows her leads. Backs (will back through an L), side passes (both directions over an L), opens gates, and has a helluva spin. Very surefooted, has crossed everything we’ve put in front of her without an issue. Careful on the trail and mindful of where she’s going. Surefooted. Leads, follows, rides in the middle, will carry packs, or pony another horse. No kick, bite, buck, or bolt. Respectful and friendly, not what I’d call in-your-pocket but likes people and attention. Not marish in the least. Very eager to please, has the buttons to go with, so she’ll need a rider who isn’t going to thump around on her sides or
face. This mare is gentle, one who’s truly kindhearted and doesn’t need to be cowboyed around. According to the previous owner, Sis was used extensively in a feedlot and lightly as a heel horse. At roping practice, she’ll quietly push cattle, let you get gates, and doesn’t mind the noise, ropes, roping dummy, etc. Several of her siblings are out earning money in barrel racing, roping, pole bending, breakaway, and sorting. The speed is there, but she’s happy to go the pace she’s asked. Really nice mare here who could truly go any direction. UTD on shots, Coggins, teeth, etc. Nice hard buckskin feet. We keep her barefoot with no issues. Enjoy her as a superb ranch and trail horse, take advantage of her performance breeding, and finish her in the arena. Has shown in trail classes, could easily make it as a ranch riding, roping, gaming, or sorting horse, leggy and athletic enough to make a good hunter prospect as well. Located in Bondurant, IA.
